Inaugural “Drive-In Motor Madness Car Show" a Success

The Flemington Speedway Historical Society (FSHS) and the Hunterdon County 4-H and Agricultural Fair Board presented the first annual "Drive-In Motor Madness Car Show" on Sunday, October 23, 2011.

We had 285 paid exhibitors, and more than three hundred vehicles were displayed. With admission largely by carload, and most exhibitors bringing guests, it is estimated that more than 2,000 people attended the show. We thank everyone – exhibitors, spectators, volunteer workers, and vendors alike – for supporting our first car show effort.

Shop Rite of Flemington, nearly as venerable a local institution as the old Speedway, was the top sponsor for our first car show. Other long-established local businesses which chose to partner with FSHS were Everitt Equipment, LLC in Ringoes, NJ; Champion Tire, also of Ringoes; Ditschman/Flemington Ford Lincoln, Flemington, NJ; and Bushner Tree Service in Easton, PA. We remain grateful for the faith these businesses showed in FSHS’s marketing potential.

While all our efforts are dedicated to the preservation of the memory of Flemington Speedway, we would also like to dedicate this show to the persons and organizations listed above. Without each of your contributions, this show could not have happened.

Wanting to grow this into a big, fun, annual event, we appreciate your suggestions as we are already anxiously planning for 2012!

Award Re-Named to Honor “Tas”

Second Annual Nostalgic Movie Nite Recap

The Flemington Speedway Historical Society (FSHS) presented their second annual auto racing film party on Saturday, November 5, 2011. The event was held at a venue familiar to former patrons of the speedway: the Flemington Elks Banquet Hall.

FSHS honored legendary race car driver, the late great Al Tasnady, as the first ever recipient of Flemington Speedway’s Most Influential Persons Award. Graciously appearing to accept the award were Tasnady’s widow Gail and their daughter Kami. (Pictured below, with FSHS President Mark Harrington.)

It was also announced that the annual Flemington Speedway’s Most Influential Persons Award will now be officially known as The Tas Award. As Vice President, Steve Barrick, recited, “the only fitting honor for the man we remember tonight.”
